The Honda Unicorn has been in the Indian market for almost 15 years and now Honda 2Wheelers India has launched the new BS6 compliant Unicorn with a 160cc engine at the price of INR 93,593 ex-showroom, Delhi.
The new Unicorn is powered by a BS6 emission compliant 162.7cc single-cylinder air-cooled, 4-stroke Spark Ignition engine that produces 12.91 ps of power and 14 Nm of torque mated to a 5-speed gearbox with a wet multi-plate clutch. The engine now features a Programmed Fuel injection system (PGM-Fi) with Honda Eco Technology (HET) that claims to have increased the efficiency and performance of the motorcycle. The new engine now comes equipped with a needle rocker arm bearing for reduced frictional forces and a counterweight balancer that reduces vibrations. As compared to the Honda Unicorn 160 which still uses the same displacement engine (162.7) the engine produces 14.01 ps of power and 13.92 Nm of torque. While the power on the BS6 compliant engine is slightly reduced the torque remains almost the same.
The Honda Unicorn BS6 features a halogen bulb headlight, blue backlit analogue meter console, broad front cowl with chrome garnish and smoked flyscreen, 3D Honda Wing logo on the tank, chrome insert on the side cowl, 18-inch alloy wheels, 240mm disc brake on the front with ABS, 130mm internally expanding shoe type mechanical drum brake on the rear, a diamond type frame with telescopic front fork and hydraulic monoshock on the rear.
The new Unicorn also features an engine stop switch, a longer wheelbase and 8mm higher ground clearance, 24mm longer seat length and HET tubeless tyre which is developed using a new tyre compound that lowers the rolling resistance, reducing energy loss but maintains optimum road grip. The BS6 Honda Unicorn is available in three colour options – Pearl Igneous Black, Imperial Red Metallic & Mat Axis Gray Metallic.
In related news, Honda 2Wheelers India has successfully transitioned itself into BS6 and sold more than 3 lakh units with BS6 compliant engines. The Honda BS6 range now includes the Activa 6G, Activa 125, Dio, SP 125, Shine and now the Unicorn BS6.
