BMW India is set to broaden its electric sedan portfolio by launching more affordable variants of the i5 by the end of 2025. Currently, the i5 is only available in the range-topping M60 xDrive trim, priced at INR 1.2 crore (ex-showroom).
To bridge the gap between the i4 (INR 72.5 lakh) and the flagship i5, BMW will introduce the i5 eDrive40 and i5 xDrive40—both already on sale in international markets.
Powertrain and performance
All three i5 variants share the same 81.2kWh (net) battery pack, but differ in drivetrain and output:

The eDrive40 is expected to be the first to arrive, offering a compelling mix of range, performance, and price.
Design and features
While the eDrive40 and xDrive40 sport a less aggressive exterior than the M60, they retain the same sleek silhouette and luxurious cabin. Expect features like:
- Curved dual-screen layout with iDrive 8.5
- ADAS suite with lane assist and adaptive cruise
- Panoramic sunroof, ambient lighting, and premium upholstery
BMW will likely offer customisation options to differentiate trims while keeping costs in check.
Pricing and market positioning
The i5 eDrive40 is expected to be priced between INR 85–90 lakh, making it a more attainable option for buyers seeking a luxury EV sedan.
With no direct rivals in this price bracket, the i5 eDrive40 could carve out a niche between the Mercedes EQE SUV and the Audi Q8 e-tron, both of which are SUVs rather than sedans.
