BMW Group No. 1 in global premium segment, EV sales double

BMW has revealed the sales numbers for the last year. The carmaker sold 21,00,692  units across its brands in all the markets it is present in. While the total number has declined by 5.1 percent compared to the previous year, it remains the sales topper in the premium segment.

BMW’s electric vehicle sales

The electric vehicle portfolio saw double growth as compared to previous year. The Bavarian carmaker sold 2,15,755 units of fully-electric BMW and Mini vehicles. This means a growth of 107.7 percent compared to 2021. Further, the carmaker crossed a major milestone when it comes to battery electric vehicles as well. The company delivered its 5,00,000th fully-electric car to its new year late last year.

Coming to all electric cars, BMW sold 372,956 which includes plug-in hybrids. These numbers too grew by 35.6 percent as compared to the previous year.

Growth of BMW M on its 50th Anniversary Year

BMW M, the performance division of the carmaker reported a very successful year. The company sold 1,77,257 units of the M branded cars in 2021, a growth of 8.4 percent compared to previous year.

In its 50th Anniversary year, BMW launched two new all-electric M branded cars – the i4 M50 and the iX M60. The high performance BMW XM was launched as well. There was good demand from models like the M3 and M4.

Electric Mini is the best selling Mini variant

Mini sold 2,92,923 units of cars in 2022. Of this, 60,839 were electrified models which accounted for 21 percent of all the sales. The all-electric Mini Cooper SE had a good year as well. 43,744 units of the Cooper SE were sold, which is a growth of 25.5 percent compared to 2021.

2023 will remain an important year for the Mini brand. It is the 110th Anniversary year. The carmaker will celebrate the anniversary at the main plant in Oxford will will also unveil the first two fully-electric models in the Mini family.

Rolls-Royce reports highest-ever sales in 118 years

BMW owned luxury brand Rolls-Royce too has had good sales in 2022. The brand sold 6,021 units worldwide, an increase of 7.8 percent compared to 2021. The number is also the highest since the brand’s inception 118 years ago.

Each of the 6,021 cars was customized as per the owner’s wishes which an average price reported in the range of Euro 5,00,000.

BMW Motorrad sales numbers

2,02,895 scooters and motorbikes were delivered to customers by BMW Motorrad. This represents an increase of 4.4 percent with good sales in Europe, Americas and Asian regions.
