BMW brings 7-Series Protection to India as a CBU unit

BMW India has launched the new BMW 7-Series Protection in the Indian market. The Bulletproof luxury saloon is now available to order from today i.e 12th February 2024. The brand has announced that the 7-Series Protection will only be available in the petrol engine variant and the car will be brought to India via the Completely Built-up Unit (CBU) route. With the BMW 7-Series Protection the brand claims to have blended exceptional luxury with the highest standards of ballistic safety. The saloon also claims to tap into BMW’s 45-year of experience in design and development of armoured vehicles.

BMW 7-Series Protection – Protection Core

The BMW 7-Series Protection comes with BMW’s unique protection architecture called the Protection Core. The Protection Core is a self supporting protective cell. The heavily armoured inner core surrounds the passenger compartment offering throughout protection to high value individuals. Combined with protection-spec doors, armouring for the underbody and safety glass, the Protection Core converts the car into a Fort.

BMW 7-Series Protection – Customised Protection

The BMW 7-Series Protection can protect high-risk individuals from attacks with firearms or explosives. The 7-Series Protection comes with a class VR9 protection. The VR9 protection class is based on Germany’s Vereinigung der Prüfstellen für Angriffshemmende Materialien und Konstruktionen. This stands for the Association of Test Laboratories for Attack-Resistant Materials and Constructions, known as, VPAM.

The BMW 7-Series Protection also comes with VPAM BRV which is Bullet Resistant Vehicles as well as VPAM ERV, which is Explosives Resistant Vehicle. The 7-Series Protection also comes with PAS 300 blast resistance. In addition to this, the BMW 7-Series Protection offers protection from 7.62×5 calibre Li R ammunition, on all its glass. As an option, customers can also order defined bodywork areas against fire from VPAM 10 ammunition.

BMW 7-Series Protection – Service and Maintenance

BMW offers exclusive consultancy for sales and service with the BMW 7-Series Protection. The BMW 7-Series Protection is serviced by certified special garages only, ensuring confidentiality of its clientele. The access to the vehicle is also restricted only to a few specially trained personnel. In addition to this, BMW also offers a special driver training program for security vehicles.

BMW 7-Series Protection – Engine Specifications

Powering the 7-Series Protection is the latest-generation 4.4-litre eight-cylinder engine arranged in a ‘V’ configuration. The V8 engine comes with TwinPower Turbo technology with an upgraded turbocharging system. The upgraded TwinPower Turbo comes with an electric blow-off valve and indirect charge air cooling. Along with this, the turbocharging system also features a cross-bank exhaust manifold. Furthermore, the engine also gets 48V mild hybrid technology to improve efficiency and power delivery.

Thanks to its latest-generation tech, the petrol engine on the 7-Series Protection produces 530 hp of power and 750 Nm of torque. This helps the car accelerate from 0 – 100 km/hr in just 6.6 seconds. Also, the 7-Series Protection with its added armour is still capable of achieving a top speed of 210 km/hr. The engine comes with an 8-speed Steptronic Automatic Transmission. The 7-Series Protection also gets 50:50 Weight Distribution, Driving Experience Control switch, Auto Start-Stop, ECO PRO mode, Brake-Energy Regeneration and more.
