BMW India has launched the new BMW 220i M Sport at the price starting INR 40.90 lakh ex-showroom India. The new petrol variant of the 2 Series will be produced at the BMW Group Plant in Chennai and will be available alongside the two diesel powertrain variants – 220d Sportline and 220d M Sport. The brand has also announced that the BMW 220i M Sport will be available at all BMW India dealerships as well as its digital sales channels from today.
The BMW 220i M Sport is powered by a BS6 emission-compliant BMW TwinPower Turbo 4-cylinder petrol motor that produces 190 Hp of power and 280 Nm of torque matched to an 8-Speed Steptronic Sport transmission with paddle shifters, Launch Control, BMW Driving Experience Control which are essentially driving modes – ECO PRO, Comfort, Sport and Expert function for race track operation.
The 2-Series comes with a Front-Wheel-Drive architecture where the engine is positioned transversely and comes with ARB technology (actuator contiguous wheel slip limitation system) along with BMW Performance Control system that enhances the agility through brake interventions during cornering. BMW has also updated the quick-shift control for rapid manual gearshifts. The BMW 220i M Sport is capable of sprinting from 0-100 kmph in just 7.1 seconds. To put things into perspective, the 2.0-litre diesel engine that produces 190 Hp of power and 400 Nm of torque is capable of accelerating the car from 0 -100 kmph in just 7.5 seconds.
The brand has also equipped the vehicle with a long seventh gear that keeps the engine revolutions low and helps maximise comfort and fuel efficiency for highway driving. To further reduce the CO2 emissions the transmission can also let the car coast in neutral in certain situations and the brand also uses a special viscosity oil to further reduce the carbon footprint.
The BMW 220i M Sport comes with a prominent BMW four-eyed face, vertically slotted chrome-accented radiator grille, LED headlamps, Full-LED taillamps with L-shaped light signature, flared shoulders giving the car a muscular look, sculpted surfaces and precise crease lines, side taper at the C-pillar, frameless doors and a stretched overall silhouette.
On the inside, the car features a driver-oriented cockpit, newly designed Sport Seats with electrical adjustment and memory function, large panorama glass sunroof, 40/20/40 split rear seat backrest, illuminated trim, ambient lighting, BMW Live Cockpit Professional with a 12.3-inch digital instrument display with 3D Navigation, BMW Live Cockpit Professional, a 10.25-inch infotainment display, BMW Gesture Control, BMW Virtual Assistant, Reversing Assistant, Wireless Charging, Wireless Apple CarPlay and a plethora of BMW Safety technologies.
