Bentley has revealed the details of its first diesel powered SUV. It’s called the Bentayga as well all know and it is powered by a triple-charged, 4.0-liter, V8 engine which produces 435 BHP and 900 Nm torque. All that peak power can be used within 1,000 – 3,250 RPM range. This engine uses two twin scroll turbochargers which is assisted by an electric supercharger.
This power is enough to take this car from 0-100 kmph in 4.8 seconds and a top speed of 270 kmph. The acceleration of this car from 40 kmph to 120 kmph is pretty much the same as its petrol version which is powered by a 6.0 liter W12 petrol engine.
The triple charging system is unique and functions like this… The boost is provided at lower revvs from the instantly reacting electric supercharger. This is called an e-booster and this prepares the twin scroll turbochargers. The first turbo enhances the mid-range thrust and the second turbo gives the extra punch to higher revvs when the supercharger is shut. The e-booster’s efficiency is further increased by a shut off valve system which disengages an exhaust valve to build up more combustion pressure. The released exhaust gasses are reduced using a catalytic selective system and an AdBlue urea fuel supplement.
The car does not have a lot of design changes on the exterior. The suspension setup has been slightly modified to distribute the weight of the newly added AdBlue tank which has a capacity of 23 liters. Rest of the changes includes an acoustic treatment of the exhaust which is specifically done for the V8 engine.
With a combination of all these factors, the performance of this car is astounding with it earning the tag of the fastest diesel SUV in the world.
