Bentley introduces carbon-fibre parts on Bentayga & Continental GT

Written by Nizam Shaikh

British luxury car manufacturer Bentley has introduced new carbon fibre styling specifications to enhance the visual appeal of the Bentley Bentayga and the Continental GT family. The new carbon fibre enhancements give Bentley customers an extra sporting edge for their Continental GT and the Bentayga.

The carbon fibre package includes a front bumper splitter, side skirts with metallic Bentley badges, rear diffuser and boot lid spoiler in high gloss carbon fibre. Additionally, the Bentayga package includes a bi-plane tailgate spoiler and rear screen strakes, front air blades, wing vents and mirror caps in a matching finish.

The parts are crafted by hand and to meet exact tolerances and have been designed, developed and tested to meet meticulous attention to detail. The carbon fibre components are mirror matched with the centre line of the car for visual appeal and come in a 2×2 twill pattern. The carbon fibre parts are made with multiple layers each one oriented for optimum strength, durability and weight.

The styling specifications are designed keeping in mind the aerodynamic performance such as the front & rear Lift & Drag are refined using CFD (Computational Fluid Dynamics) technology. Components are also assessed for effect on powertrain cooling, brake cooling and noise, vibration & harshness (NVH) levels and compatibility with PDC (park distance control), radar systems, on-board communications antennae etc.

The parts also have to undergo various validation tests including 100,000 km vehicle test and abuse test like water wading, rough roads as well as kerb strikes. Bentley’s quality labs also asses the components for vibration, thermal cycling, point loading and impacts.

The styling specifications are developed by the same team that makes carbon fibre components on the GT3-R & Supersports models including the Pikes Peak and Ice Race Continental GTs.

The styling specification parts are available to order from Bentley retailers when a new car is ordered and can also be retrofitted to existing Bentley vehicles. The brand will also be assing styling specification parts for the Flying Spur, in the near future.
