Bajaj Triumph’s modern classic motorcycle looks ready for launch

Written by Rohit Tonapi

Back in 2020, Triumph announced its collaboration with Bajaj to build all-new series of mid-capacity motorcycles. The two companies planned a launch for 2022. However, all the plans and development were delayed due to the pandemic. Now it looks like Triumph is making quick progress with the new bike, as it was spotted recently in Midlands, which is not far away from Triumph’s HQ. The bike looks production-ready, and we also get to see many new details.

Bajaj-Triumph’s Modern Classic Motorcycle Spotted – What Do We See?

Looking at the photos makes one thing clear, Triumph’s least expensive options still won’t be cheap on quality. At the front, the bike gets upside-down forks, a circular full-LED headlight and a crafted headlight bracket. The instrument cluster seems to have a similar shape to the Scrambler 1200. However, it is likely that it will have an analogue tachometer and a digital MID.

Moving further, the tank has a sculpted design, and the single-piece seat has contrast stitching. Also confirming this is a Triumph is the triangular clutch cover on the right side. The exhaust end-can looks like it is missing a heat shield. Hence, it does seem like some final touches are still remaining. Around the back, except for the side panels and rear panels, there is minimal bodywork. This particular test mule gets circular LED turn signal indicators as well. The taillight also looks like an all-LED unit, and above it, you see the single-piece pillion grab rail.

The bike in the photos runs on a cast swingarm, cast alloy wheels and sporty-looking tyres. The model has design cues from the Bonneville range. However, bits such as a monoshock rear suspension and 17-inch wheels are more in-line with Triumph’s Roadster series bike like the Trident 660.

Bajaj-Triumph’s Modern Classic Motorcycle – Expected Powertrain & Launch

As of now, it is unclear exactly what size the engine is. However, looking at the pictures, it looks like it is a middle-weight capacity motorcycle with displacement somewhere between 350cc and 500cc. The exhaust system confirms that it is a single-cylinder motorcycle. The pictures also confirm it will get liquid-cooling, as evident from the vertically-mounted radiator.

The new Bajaj-Triumph bike will be a global model. As Bajaj will manufacture the bike in India, the British brand will be able to price it competitively. Triumph says the partnership aims to take the brand into segments where it has not been before. Thus, giving new people a chance to enter the Triumph brand. Triumph will also sell the model in the Philippines and Indonesia.

Once it makes its way to India, it will compete with the single-cylinder 350cc to 500cc options in the segment. Currently, Royal Enfield dominates with more than 85 per cent share. Hence, pricing will be crucial in deciding the fate of the Bajaj-Triumph’s middle-weight motorcycle in India.
