Bajaj has announced that the brand has delivered the first Bajaj Freedom NG04 CNG motorcycle in the Indian market. The very first Freedom 125 was delivered to Mr Pravin Thorat in Pune. In addition to this, the brand also revealed that the World’s First CNG Motorcycle has received more than 30,000 enquiries. The bookings for the Bajaj Freedom 125 are still open and it appears that Bajaj has also commenced the deliveries of the CNG-powered motorcycle in India amidst the high consumer buzz.
Technical Specifications
Powering the Bajaj Freedom NG04 is a 125cc single-cylinder air-cooled engine that has been optimised to run on CNG fuel. The engine produces 9.5 PS of power and 9.7 Nm of torque which remains unchanged for both CNG and petrol. While some may think that the Bajaj Freedom is a petrol engine motorcycle retrofitted with a CNG tank? But that is not the case, the company has built the motorcycle from the grounds up to run on CNG fuel and petrol is just a limp home feature.
Made For CNG
To achieve this, the engine Bajaj Freedom CNG comes with larger air cooling fins on the cylinder block and head as well as larger oil cooling jets in the engine. This helps the engine run cooler on CNG as it is a dry fuel unlike petrol which in itself has cooling properties. In addition to this, the Bajaj Freedom 125 is also capable of starting directly on CNG fuel and can run on CNG for a long time without any damage to the motor.
Mileage and Range
The Bajaj Freedom 125 comes with a claimed mileage of 110 km/kg for CNG fuel. With a water tank capacity of 12.5-litres, the CNG tank is capable of accommodating around 2 kgs of fuel if it is filled at a pressure of around 200 Bar. This gives the motorcycle a range of around 220 km to a tank of CNG. But in case, the bike runs out of CNG fuel, the Freedom 125 also comes with a 2-litre petrol tank as a spare which is a limp home feature, but is capable of offering a range of 110 km on a tank, which is 65 KMPL. This makes the total range of the Freedom motorcycle to be around 330 km on CNG+Petrol combined.
