Bajaj Avenger Street 220 coming soon

Bajaj’s Avenger brand name is a stronghold among the cruiser motorcycles in India. Now, the company is going to revamp the Avenger lineup with the addition of the Avenger Street 220 model. This will be a comeback of the Street 220 variant, which was earlier discontinued.

Mind you, the Avenger moniker is currently available in two iterations, the Street with a 160cc engine, and the Cruise with the 220cc engine. However, the upcoming Street 220 will share the engine with the Cruise 220, but it will be positioned below the Cruiser variant.

So, what will be the difference between them? Basically, the Cruise variant is a loaded trim with cruise-oriented styling, including a big windscreen, chrome highlights, spoke wheels, etc.

Meanwhile, the Street 220 will offer a rugged styling with a city-centric outlook. It boasts aggressive colours, blacked-out mechanical parts, and a smaller windscreen. Also, the Street version is a little bit shorter than the Cruiser model.

Powering the Street 220 will be the reliable 220cc, single-cylinder, air/oil-cooled motor, producing 19 bhp and 17.55 Nm of peak power and torque. It is mated to a 5-speed gearbox. Features will include LED lights, a semi-digital console, Bluetooth connectivity, and a dual-channel ABS.

The expected launch timeline for the new Street 220 is in the coming weeks. As it will be positioned below the Cruise 220 model, the expected price tag is Rs 1.40 lakh for the Avenger Street 220.

Our verdict

The Bajaj Avenger has been present in the Indian motorcycle world for years. It is received as an affordable cruiser bike with adequate power for highway use. However, there is high demand in certain regions in India for the Avenger Street model. Hence, Bajaj is trying to leverage that demand with a new 220cc variant.
