Ministry of Home Affairs has released the Unlock 4 guidelines and automobile manufacturers have restarted production and sales in a phased manner with full consistency adhering to all safety requirements for employees and customers. However, lockdown in containment zones continues to be implemented and measures as per guideline issued by the Ministry of Health and Family Welfare are being enforced.
Due to the nationwide lockdown imposed due to the COVID-19 outbreak, the automobile industry which was already slumped went down further. With new Unlock rules and citizens following the new normal, slowly the auto industry seems to be getting back on track. Various OEM have posted their sales reports for the month of August 2020.
Following is an OEM wise glimpse of how each manufacturer has scored in the period of August 2020:-
India’s leading automotive manufacturer, Maruti Suzuki has registered a total sales of 124,624 units in August 2020 a growth of 15.3% over July 2020 and a 17.1% growth over the same period in the last year. The total sales figure includes domestic sales of 115,325 units and 1,379 units for other OEMs. Maruti Suzuki has also announced that the brand has exported 7,920 units in August 2020, a drop of 15.3% over August 2019.
Mahindra & Mahindra Ltd. has registered sales of 13,651 vehicles in August 2020, compared to 13,507 vehicles in August 2019, registering a marginal growth of 1% in the passenger vehicle segment. In the Commercial Vehicles segment, the company sold 15,299 vehicles in August 2020, as against 14,684 vehicles in August 2019, a growth of 4%. The brand’s exports for the month of August 2020 stood at 1,169 vehicles. The brand’s Farm Equipment Sector (FES), the brand registered tractor sales of 24,458 units (Domestic + Exports) as against 14,817 units for the same period last year. 955 units were exported.
Hyundai Motor India Ltd has posted a cumulative sales of 52,609 units in August 2020 as compared to 56,005 units sold in the same period last year. Out of the 52,609 units sold in August 2020, 45,809 units have been sold in the domestic market and 6,800 units have been exported.
Toyota Kirloskar Motor announced that the brand has sold a total of 5,555 units in the month of August 2020 showing growth over the 5,386 units sold in the month of July 2020. For the same period last year(August 2019), TKM sold a total of 10,701 units in the domestic market and had exported 843 units of the Toyota Etios.
MG Motor India has announced that the brand has registered the retail sales of 2,851 units in August 2020, recording a growth of 41% in sales over the same period in the last year. MG had sold 2,018 units in August 2019. In the month of July 2020, the brand sold 2,105 units and expects to gain more traction with the new addition, the MG Hector Plus.
Honda Cars India Ltd (HCIL), has registered monthly domestic sales of 7,509 units in August 2020 with 450 units in export. The brand had recorded a total number of 8,291 units of domestic sales in August 2019. HCIL has also announced that, since the production resumption in June this year, the company has ramped up its monthly domestic despatches with 1,398 units in June 2020 and 5,383 units in July 2020.
Kia Motors has registered sales of 10,845 units in the month of August 2020 out of which the brand’s bestseller the Kia Seltos achieved 10,655 units of sales in August 2020. Kia Motors has also announced that the brand has recorded 74% growth in Year-On-Year sales as compared to 6236 units last year.
Ashok Leyland has recorded a sales of 2,222 units of M&HCV Bus & Truck and 3,602 units in the LCV segment, in the domestic market a total of 5,824 units. For the same period last year, the brand sold a total of 8,295 units.
Hero Motocorp recorded sales of 584,456 units of motorcycles and scooters in the month of August 2020, a growth of 7.55% as compared to the same month in the previous year, when it sold 543,406 units. Hero Motocorp sold 514,509 units of motorcycles and scooters in July 2020, a growth of 13% over the month.
Honda Motorcycle & Scooter India Pvt. Ltd. (HMSI) has announced that the brand sold 443,969 units, including 428,231 domestic sales and 15,738 exports in August 2020. Honda’s domestic sales breached 4 lac mark for the first time in FY’20-21 and registered 1% YoY growth.
Bajaj Auto sold 3,21,058 units of two-wheelers (Domestic + Exports) in the month of August 2020. The brand has sold 3,25,300 units in August 2019. Bajaj Auto also sold 35,141 units of commercial vehicles (Domestic + Exports) in August 2020 as compared to 64,726 units sold in the same period last year.
TVS Motor Company registered a total two-wheelers (Motorcycle + Scooter) sales of 277,226 units in August 2020 as against 275,851 units in August 2019. The three-wheeler arm of the company registered sales of 10,172 units in August 2020 as against 14,604 units in August 2019, bringing a sales growth of 14% in August 2020 with total 287,398 units as against 252,744 units in July 2020. TVS also exported 68,347 units in the month of August 2020 as against 69,702 units in August 2019.
Royal Enfield has announced that the company sold 47,571 units in the domestic market and 2,573 units were exported bringing the total sales of 50,144 units for August 2020 which is 5% in the negative as compared to the same period last year. In the month of July 2020, Royal Enfield registered sales of 40,334 units.
