Audi has revealed the new Skysphere concept in pictures. The brand also announced that the Skysphere concept will make its public debut at the Monterey Car Week on the Pebble Beach golf course on 13th August 2021. According to the brand, the unveiling in California is more or less Audi Skysphere’s home turf as Audi designed the concept at their Design Studio in Malibu, which is close to the Pacific Coast Highway.

Audi Skysphere – Design & Styling

The Audi Skysphere draws inspiration from the Horch 853 roadster. The brand boasts that the concept roadster is not just about the drive feel but offering a world-class experience to its occupants. The car features a blend of luxury and an ecosystem of digitization. The vehicle comes with a low slung stance with a long bonnet with a hallmark single-frame grille. The grille integrates sleek light signatures, LED DRLs and headlamps with a crystalline effect on the sides. The concept comes with prominent wheel arches and chunky aerodynamic alloy wheels. The Skysphere features a unique design with a speed tail look, transparent powertrain covers, and unique air extractors on the rear.

Audi Skysphere – Variable Wheelbase

The Spysphere concept offers two different experiences to its passengers. A grand touring experience and a sports experience. The concept car comes with a variable wheelbase. This variable wheelbase technology uses electric motors and a sophisticated mechanism. The body and frame components slide into one another, making it possible to vary the car’s wheelbase.

Along with the wheelbase, the exterior length of the car can also change by 250 millimetres. The ground clearance can also be adjusted by 10mm. Owners can drive the 4.94-meter-long e-roadster by themselves in the “Sports Mode” with a reduced wheelbase. Or owners can choose to be chauffeured around in a 5.19-meter GT in the autonomous “Grand Touring” driving mode.

Audi Skysphere – Powertrain

Powering the Skysphere concept is a 465 kW electric motor equivalent to 623.5 Hp of mechanical power. The electric powertrain also produces 740 Nm of torque. The powerful electric engine only needs to propel 1,800 kgs of weight. This results in a 0-100kmph acceleration of just 4 seconds. Audi will employ a battery capacity of more than 80 kWh leading to a range of more than 500 kilometres according to the WLTP standard. The Skysphere also comes with rear-wheel steering and adaptive air suspension.
