Audi celebrates 25 years of A4

German luxury car manufacturer Audi is celebrating the 25th anniversary of its popular mid-size car, the Audi A4. In the quarter of a century, the brand has produced more than 7.5 million units of the A4. In the year 2018, 3,44,586 units were sold worldwide and every fifth Audi sold wass an A4. The first Audi A4 rolled out of the assembly line 25 years ago today, in Ingolstadt, Germany. The car is now in its fifth-generation model.

The Audi A4 is the successor of the Audi 80 and it went into production in 1994 and in just one year, more than 2,72,052 units rolled off the assembly line. The model continues today with its advanced driver assistance system and has symbolized the brand in the premium mid-size segment. The Audi A4 is adored in international markets like China, Germany and the United States. In China,  Audi produces a long wheelbase version of the A4, especially for that market due to high demand.

In India, the Audi A4 is powered by two engines:-

  • 1.4-litre TFSI petrol engine that makes 150 PS of power and 250 Nm of torque.
  • 2.0-litre TDI diesel engine that produces 190 PS of power and 400 Nm of torque.

The brand has produced more than 7.5 million units of the A4 and since the launch of its fourth-generation A4 in 2007, Audi’s two main plants, Ingolstadt and Neckarsulm have shared the production of the A4, which Audi calls a turntable production system. In Asia, Audi manufactures the A4 in Changchun, China and Aurangabad, India for their local markets.
