Audi and Porsche entering Formula 1 in 2026

Written by Rohit Tonapi

The two premium brands of the Volkswagen Group, Audi and Porsche, will be entering Formula 1. The rumours about Volkswagen entering Formula 1 have been doing rounds for a while now. Now though, Volkswagen Group’s CEO, Herbert Diess, has given a confirmation.

Audi and Porsche entering Formula 1 – Details

Audi and Porsche convinced the Volkswagen Group that the move would bring more money than it would cost. However, the discussions created divisions during a board of directors meeting. The meeting took place in Wolfsburg, where Volkswagen has its headquarters.

Audi and Porsche are the biggest income suppliers to Volkswagen Group after Volkswagen China. Audi and Porsche made their case, saying a Formula 1 commitment would pull in more money. The CEO said that the company did not have any more arguments and agreed to it. In addition to Audi and Porsche’s economic argument, the high impact of Formula 1’s advertising was also convincing.

This confirmation also means Porsche will reduce its other racing activities and concentrate more on Formula 1. While additional details are scarce, as per earlier reports, Audi and Porsche could enter the sport in 2026.

Other Updates

Audi and Porsche continue to showcase new technology and also bring back the yesteryear vibes. Audi recently unveiled the urbansphere concept car. The urbansphere design follows an inside-out philosophy and features maximum interior space. The vehicle uses an all-electric powertrain and also gets fast charging capabilities. The urbansphere is for comfort. Hence it offers adaptive air suspension for a comfortable and pliant ride. In addition to this, the car also gets level-four autonomous driving capabilities.

On the other hand, Porsche brings yesteryear vibes with the 911 Sport Classic. The 911 Sport Classic is part of the company’s Heritage Design Collection. The collection features special and limited edition cars celebrating Porsche’s history. The 911 Turbo based 911 Sport Classic pays homage to the 1973 911 Carrera RS 2.7. The manufacturer from Stuttgart will limit the special edition to only 1,250 units worldwide.
