Written by Nizam Shaikh

Bengaluru headquartered electric mobility solutions provider Ather Energy has rolled out its 7th Over-The-Air (OTA) update for the Ather 450 electric scooter in Bengaluru and Chennai. The update is a result of active feedback received by Ather Energy via the Ather Community. The company has previously rolled remote updates by learning from consumer behaviour and patterns. The new feature which is a new ‘Dark Theme’ for the touch screen dashboard has been highly requested by Ather users on the above-mentioned forum.

The Ather 450 comes with a 7-inch TFT LCD, LED Backlit, Touchscreen display with a colour depth of 16M and is powered by a Snapdragon 212 Quadcore 1.3 GHz processor with 1GB RAM and 8GB storage that runs an Android Open Source OS (AOSP) operating system.

With the new update, Ather users can switch between Dark and Light themes from the settings menu manually or leave the setting on Auto which automatically switches between the theme using a preset time of the day. In Auto Mode, the display turns dark between 6 Pm and 6 Am reducing the stress from the excess light from the bright touchscreen display. The new theme also improves the safety quotient as it reduces glare and distraction from the instruments panel.

Apart from the Dark Theme the update also adds other enhancements like a more responsive keyboard, and the ability to save previous riding modes. which automatically selects the last used riding mode on the dashboard so the owner won’t have to switch between modes.

The Ather 450 comes with an electronic package that offers features like GNSS with AGPS positioning system, 4G LTE Cat-4 / WCDMA / EDGE, Wi-Fi 2.45G, Bluetooth 4.2 and BLE 5.0 connectivity and includes features such as OTA updates, onboard navigation, connected mobile app, side stand sensor, auto indicator off, take-me-home lights and many app-based features like ride stats, push navigation, live location & vehicle state, tracking, theft/tow detection, music control, call control, welcome lights and voice assistant. It also supports smart accessories like tyre pressure monitoring system (TPMS) and smart helmets.

The brand has also introduced the new Ather 450X which it calls the Super Scooter priced at INR 99,000 (ex-Bangalore) along with a monthly subscription of INR 1,699 for the Plus and INR 1,999 for the Pro model. Ather already has fully operational infrastructures in Bengaluru and Chennai along with the announcement of its entry into metropolitan markets like Delhi NCR, Mumbai, Pune, Hyderabad and will be extending its services to four more cities – Ahmedabad, Coimbatore, Kochi and Kolkatta.
