Apple CarPlay Ultra – What Is It?
Apple has unveiled CarPlay Ultra, the next-generation version of its popular in-car smartphone integration system. Unlike previous iterations, CarPlay Ultra deeply integrates with a vehicle’s digital ecosystem, allowing drivers to control climate settings, adjust driving modes, and access real-time vehicle data directly through Apple’s interface.
Expanded functionality and multi-screen integration
The new Apple application extends beyond the infotainment screen, displaying Apple Maps, media controls, and widgets on the instrument cluster. Drivers can now view speed, RPM, fuel levels, gear selection, tyre pressure alerts, and safety notifications using Apple’s design language.
Apple has also introduced customizable themes, allowing users to personalize their digital instrument cluster with classic twin-dial layouts or futuristic gradient-based designs.
Vehicle control and siri integration
One of the biggest advancements is its ability to control core vehicle systems. Drivers can now use Siri voice commands to adjust:
- Heating and ventilation
- Dynamic drive modes
- Audio tuning and parking assist
- 3D camera views
Additionally, third-party apps like Spotify, WhatsApp, and food-ordering services can now be accessed directly through CarPlay Ultra.
Availability and supported vehicles
The new application debuts with Aston Martin’s DBX707, Vantage, DB12, and Vanquish models. Apple has confirmed that Hyundai, Kia, and Genesis will adopt the system soon.
To use CarPlay Ultra, drivers need an iPhone 12 or later running iOS 18.5 or newer.
Market impact and future expansion
Apple’s next-gen CarPlay is expected to redefine in-car technology, offering seamless smartphone integration while maintaining automaker-specific design elements. The system will roll out to more brands globally within the next 12 months.
