2020 All-New Thar bookings open on 2nd October – Mahindra’s Founders Day

At the digital launch of the All-New Mahindra Thar, the brand announced that it will open bookings on the 2nd of October 2020. Now the brand has launched a new teaser reminding its aficionados that the most-loved utilitarian SUV in the country will see its market launch on Mahindra’s Founders Day. The pricing will also be revealed on the same day. Between the 24th of September and 29th September 2020, Mahindra is auctioning the All-New Thar #1 with proceeds to be donated to a charity related to COVID-19 relief work. The new 2020 Mahindra Thar is expected to be priced in the range of INR 10-15 lakh. 

The All-New Thar is underpinned by a body-on-ladder architecture and features new suspension systems that not only make it comfortable for day to day highway driving but also enable the SUV to traverse over tough terrain with ease. The design and styling have is also completely different from its predecessor but retains its iconic timeless and recognisable design that definitely turns heads. 

The All-New Thar will come in two trim lines – AX and LX. The AX is targeted towards customers that want to explore uncharted territories and the LX comes with more lifestyle features with creature comforts as well as off-road capabilities. The AX variant does not get an automatic gearbox option but comes with features such as a Mechanical Locking Differential for hardcore off-roading. The LX on the other hand comes standard with 4×4 driveline and both manual and automatic gearboxes in both petrol and diesel options. 

The All-New Thar features a dynamic 42-degree approach angle, 37-degree departure angle, 27-degree ramp over angle and a water wading ability of up to 650 mm along with a high 226mm of unladen ground clearance to cross over rough terrain without brushing its belly. The Thar comes with independent front suspension and a multi-link rear setup ensuring the wheel are perpetually planted.  

The Thar is powered by an all-new mStallion series 2.0-litre Turbocharged Gasoline Direct Injection four-cylinder 16-valve DOHC petrol engine that makes 150 Bhp of power and 320 Nm for AT (300 Nm for MT) of torque and a mHawk series 2.2-litre turbo-diesel engine that produces 130 Bhp of power and 300 Nm of torque. Both the powertrains com matched to a 6-speed manual gearbox and an optional 6-speed torque converter type automatic unit. Also standard across variants is a 4X4 manual transfer case with a shift-on-fly electric driveline disconnect and a crawl ratio of 42:1 with 50:50 power split.
