All-new Maruti Suzuki Wagon R to get LPG variant, launch on 23rd January 2019

While Maruti Suzuki has not officially announced the launch of the all-new Wagon R for 23rd January 2019, a component supplier seems to have leaked this launch timeline in excitement. In this leak, it was also mentioned that the all-new Maruti Suzuki Wagon R will come with an LPG variant at the time of launch.

LPG is not widely accepted as a fuel in India. The Wagon R has been selling in Petrol, Petrol + CNG & Petrol + LPG variants for years. However the Petrol + LPG variant never sold in big numbers, primarily because of low availability of LPG fuel. LPG pollutes less and while this is the 3rd most consumed fuel worldwide with 26 million tonne sales internationally, India only contributes 0.4% of this consumption.

LPG kits will be a factory fit on the new Wagon R. LPG has high octane and is a greener alternative to petrol, diesel and even CNG vehicles. While EVs will be the future, the infrastructure to support electric cars is far from ideal.

The all-new Maruti Suzuki Wagon R is going to be larger than ever. With more space for passengers and boot space, the Wagon R with its tall boy design will continue with its spacious strong selling points. When launched, it will rival the all-new Santro.

Powering the new Wagon R will be a 1.0L petrol motor, and there are rumours that a 1.2L petrol motor could also be on offer. There will also be an AMT gearbox on offer. ABS + airbags will be offered as standard on all variants of the new Wagon R.
