Alas! 2020 Suzuki Hayabusa only gets new colours

Written by Parichay Malvankar

All that excitement and all those rumours will have to continue for a few more months it seems. Suzuki has revealed the 2020 Hayabusa for the Indian and American market, and guess what, it only gets new colours. While the entire world was expecting a new-generation of the Hayabusa to make a debut, that new bike remains a mystery for now.

For 2020, Suzuki is offering 2 new colours on their popular Hayabusa. ‘Candy Daring Red’ and ‘Metallic Thunder Gray’ are the new paint options available. For emissions compliance, the Hayabusa has been discontinued in the European markets earlier this year, but the bike continues to be in showrooms in USA and in India. The Hayabusa although an old and dated product in the segment, still is one of the most easily recognizable motorcycles in the world.

Rumours have been around for months that the new-generation of the Hayabusa will come with a larger capacity engine with a turbocharger to fight it out with rivals. But apart from rendering images and leaked patents, the brand has not made any official announcement neither have we seen any spyshots of this motorcycle.

The 2020 Hayabusa continues with the 1340cc, 4-cylinder, liquid-cooled petrol engine producing 197 BHP of power and 155 Nm of torque matched to a 6-speed gearbox. You get riding modes and dual-channel ABS on the Hayabusa but the new-generation bike could also bring features like cruise control to the picture. In any case, even in the current avatar, the Hayabusa is no slouch. It is just that the body style and overall features do not match up by today’s segment standards.

At the moment, in India, the Suzuki Hayabusa is priced at INR 13.80 lakh ex-showroom Mumbai. This competitive price tag has been achieved thanks to CKD assembly of this big bike which rivals the Kawasaki Ninja ZX-14R which asks for significantly more amount of money.
