Is this the Suzuki V-Strom 160? Patents leaked

Written by Nizam Shaikh

Suzuki with its Chinese partner Haojue could be developing a new Adventure Tourer motorcycle for the Chinese market and is likely to go on sale on sale in other international markets as well. According to a media report, the patent designs of the ADV class motorcycle have been circulating the internet leading us to believe that the adventure tourer could be based on the Suzuki V-Strom, at least in the design department.

Furthermore, it is being hypothesized that the motorcycle will be positioned as an entry-level tourer and is likely to be powered by a 160cc engine from the Haojue DR 160 naked roadster that is available in the Chinese market. A few pictures of the motorcycle also reveal its design details which seem to be heavily inspired by the Suzuki V-Strom 1050. If the rumours turn out to be true Suzuki could also position itself in the entry-level adventure touring segment and market the motorcycle under the V-Strom branding.

In terms of styling, the motorcycle in the leaked documents features a high mounted beak, stacked headlamp units, a tall windscreen, raised handlebars with knuckle guards, chiselled fuel tank, a rugged skid plate, single-seat design with pillion grab rail integrated with a tail rack and a boxy exhaust design.

In the engine department, the ADV could be powered by the same unit borrowed from the Haojue DR 160S which develops around 15 PS of power and 14 Nm of torque. It is also likely that Suzuki will use the same underpinnings fitted with a larger quarter-litre motor that could bridge the adventure touring category in many international markets including India.

At present, the brand is likely to bring the adventure bike only in the Chinese market and India may not be on the books anytime soon. But Suzuki is planning to launch the V-Strom 650 in its BS6 avatar in the Indian market. The brand has also updated its official Indian website with the “coming soon” teaser leading us to believe that the motorcycle is not far away.
