Over 14,000 drink & drive cases in Mumbai in 2014

Even after checking on the roads has increased and the fines imposed are much heavier, not to forget a possibility of getting arrested; Mumbai city has still witnessed over 14,000 cases of ‘Drinking and Driving’ in 2014.

10,000 out of the total 14,888 driving drunk cases this year included two-wheelers. The pending 32% were motorists. This figure is still not accounting for the day when the Mumbai Police is gearing up to book the most number of drunk drivers – New Years Eve. Most of the offenders caught till not are aged between 26 – 30 years.

Mumbai Police has requested for a latest breath analyser device with a built-in GPS device which can click photographs of the offenders along with noting the location of the test. This however has not been made available yet.

Mumbai Police expects up to 1,000 drunk and driving cases on the New Years Eve.

Caught between December 25 – 31, 2014, the traffic police will file a case against the drunk drivers and arrest them immediately.

Do people do not care about their life or the life of other motorists on the streets?
