Written by Nizam Shaikh

Hero Electric took the covers off its near-production model of the AE 47 fully electric motorcycle at the Auto Expo 2020. The Hero Electric AE 47 is the brand’s answer to its closest rival the Revolt RV 400 electric motorcycle.

In the styling department, the Hero Electric AE 47 comes with a rounded all-LED headlamp with LED daytime running lamps, LED indicators, a small flyscreen, body-coloured mirrors, upright ergonomic handlebars, step-up split seats, black alloy wheels and a fully digital instrument console. The headlights, tail lights indicators and the instruments console all look very similar to the Honda CB 300R.

In the mechanical department, the Hero Electric AE47 features a steel tubular frame that rides on upside-down front forks and a swingarm-mounted monoshock in the rear. The electric bike features a 290mm single disc on the front with a radially mounted calliper and a 215mm single disc brake on the rear with Combi braking system.

The powerplant on the Hero Electric AE47 is a 4000W hub-mounted electric motor coupled to a non-user removable 48-Volt 3.5kWh lithium-ion battery that can propel the AE47 to a claimed top speed of 85 kmph and can sprint from 0-60 kmph in 9.0 seconds. The Hero Electric AE47 can return a range of 85 km on a single charge in Power Mode and 160 km on a single charge in Eco Mode. The Hero Electric AE47 takes 4 hours to achieve a 100% State Of Charge (SOC).

The Hero Electric AE47 also features keyless access, mobile charger, walk assist, reverse feature and Cruise control. The electric motorcycle supports mobile app features such as GPS, GPRS, Realtime Tracking and Geofencing.

To put things into perspective, its closest rival the Revolt RV 400 is powered by a 3000W (3kW) chassis-mounted mid-drive electric motor coupled to a user-removable and portable 72-Volt 3.24kWh lithium-ion battery that can propel the RV400 to a claimed top speed of 80 kmph and provides a range of 150kms(Eco Mode), 100kms(Normal Mode), 80kms(Sports Mode) claimed on a single charge. Charging time on the Revolt RV 400 is 0-75% SOC in 3 hours and 0-100% SOC in 4.5 hours.

The Hero Electric AE47 is expected to be launched by the end of this year and speculations are that it will be priced around INR 1.2 lakh to 1.4 lakh ex-showroom.
