The Audi A4 has been given another mid-life update to keep up with the competition. The Audi A4 had been given a facelift last year and this time the changes will be to its design as well as the drivetrain which will include a mild hybrid system on the A4 range. The revised A4 is expected to be launched in the international market this year. The exterior and interior both have been revamped to keep up with Audi’s current design theme. Audi recently launched the A4 Lifestyle Edition along with the Q7 here in India and it is expected to launch the new Audi A4 soon in the Indian market.
The updated A4 will feature a new grille design and the headlights are expected to be LED with 3D design inserts, and different models are likely to have different styling elements for differentiation. The taillights are also tweaked and it gets a revised bumper with reflectors above the exhaust vents. On the interior, the A4 is expected to receive a 10.2-inch touchscreen infotainment system with Audi Multi Media Interface along with a voice assistant and a 12.3-inch digital instrument console with a Heads-Up Display as an option.
The updated A4 will feature petrol and diesel powertrains which are expected to be three 2.0-litre petrol-powered variants and three diesel-powered variants. The specifications are as follows:-
Petrol
- 2.0-litre TFSI petrol engines with a 12V mild-hybrid system and will range from 150 HP to 244 HP of maximum output.
Diesel
- 2.0-litre diesel engine that produces 191 HP
- 3.0-litre diesel that produces 244 HP
- 2.0-litre TDI diesel with a mild-hybrid engine which is expected to come later
An Audi S4 model with a 3.0-litre TDI motor with 48V mild-hybrid system comes with integrated starter motor and produces 347 HP and 700 Nm of torque. The S4 will be offered with an all-wheel-drive system and an 8-speed automatic transmission. The car is also expected to feature sports suspension as standard and the options include a sport differential and suspension with damper control.
The entry-level models will come with front-wheel drive and higher-spec with an Audi Quattro all-wheel-drive system. The Quattro variant will receive an extra ground clearance of 35mm. The gearboxes available on all standard models will be an automatic 7-speed or 8-speed depending on model and an optional 6-speed manual. The entry-level 35 TFSI and 40 TDI will be offered with a manual gearbox as standard.
It is still unclear if the facelift model will come to the Indian market in 2019. In India the pre-facelift model which is in its fifth-generation is priced at INR 41.49 to INR 46.96 lakh ex-showroom. The Audi A4 Lifestyle Edition starts at INR 43.09 lakh ex-showroom, India.
