Not showing interest in the fast growing scooter segment, Bajaj has been losing market share in the Indian two-wheeler industry for the past couple of years. Mass market products in the motorcycle market aren’t doing too well either and hence, Bajaj now plans to re-work its strategy and bring new commuter motorcycles in 2015.
Bajaj is already working on a new Pulsar but apart from that, the company is being reported to be working on a new Discover and Platina motorcycle. The new Discover will get a 125cc engine while the Platina will continue to focus on the mass market with a 100cc engine.
Expect features comparable to current times to be introduced in the new motorcycles to create a buzz. Also, high fuel efficiency will be a top selling point for both these motorcycles.
Bajaj has set a very optimistic target of 30% by the end of 2015, which is currently in the range of 15-20%.
With more and more competition entering the market, Bajaj should now focus on providing a quality motorcycle experience apart from just offering low cost of ownership.
