Xiaomi reveals YU7 SUV to rival Tesla Model Y, based on SU7 sedan

Written by News Team

Xiaomi has unveiled its latest electric SUV, the YU7, aimed directly at the Tesla Model Y. The YU7 is based on the successful SU7 sedan, marking Xiaomi’s entry into the competitive SUV market.

YU7 SUV Design and Dimensions

The YU7 sports a sleek design with teardrop-style LED headlights and a blanked-off grille, similar to the SU7. It is 4999mm long, 1996mm wide, and 1600mm tall, making it larger than the Tesla Model Y. The wheelbase is 3000mm, identical to the SU7, providing ample interior space.

The YU7’s interior is designed to offer luxury and comfort. It features premium leather seats, a panoramic sunroof, and a large touchscreen infotainment system. The SUV is equipped with Xiaomi’s latest MIUI-based infotainment software, providing seamless connectivity and a host of smart features. The advanced driver assistance systems (ADAS) include lane-keeping assist, adaptive cruise control, and automatic emergency braking.

Power and Performance

Under the hood, the YU7 features a dual-motor setup with 299 hp at the front and 392 hp at the rear, delivering a combined output of 691hp. This setup is more powerful than the SU7 Max variant. The SUV can reach a top speed of 253kph and has a kerb weight of 2405kg, making it a formidable contender in the electric SUV segment.

YU7 SUV Battery and Range

Xiaomi has partnered with CATL, Tesla’s battery supplier, for the YU7. The SUV is expected to have a 101 kWh battery, similar to the high-end SU7 models. While the exact range hasn’t been disclosed, it is likely to be slightly shorter than the SU7’s 830 km CLTC range due to the heavier build. The fast-charging capability ensures that the YU7 can be charged up to 80% in just under 30 minutes, providing convenience for long-distance travel.

Market Strategy

Xiaomi plans to prioritize domestic sales in China for the first two to three years before considering exports. The company aims to capitalize on the strong local demand for electric vehicles and establish a strong foothold in the market. The competitive pricing strategy is expected to make the YU7 an attractive option for buyers looking for a high-performance electric SUV.

Our Thoughts

The launch of the Xiaomi YU7 SUV marks a significant step for the company as it expands its electric vehicle lineup. Will it come to India? Well, it is too early to say. However, we should see it coming to India soon give Xiaomi’s aggressive market strategy.
