Mahindra Torture Tests the XEV 9e & BE 6e electric SUVs

Written by News Team

Mahindra & Mahindra is setting new safety benchmarks by conducting rigorous torture tests on its latest electric SUVs, the XEV 9e and BE 6e. The tests, carried out at Mahindra’s state-of-the-art Passive Safety Lab in Tamil Nadu, highlight the company’s dedication to safety and durability.

Live Crash Test Demonstrates Exceptional Safety

Mahindra performed India’s first live EV crash test on the XEV 9e. The SUV, equipped with advanced safety features, underwent a frontal 40 percent offset deformable barrier crash test at 64 km/h. The test showcased the vehicle’s robust construction, with airbags deploying as designed and the occupant cage remaining intact, confirming the SUV’s exceptional safety performance and structural integrity.

Battery Resilience Proven Through Rigorous Testing

Mahindra also demonstrated the battery resilience of both SUVs through a series of severe tests. These included:

  • Nail Penetration Test: A live battery cell was subjected to a nail penetration test to ensure it could withstand physical damage without catastrophic failure.
  • Fire Resistance Test: The fully charged battery was exposed to open fire, proving it maintained structural integrity and did not lead to a fire or explosion under extreme temperatures.
  • Crush Test: In a dramatic demonstration, a 22-tonne truck was driven over a live battery pack. Despite the severe abuse, the battery retained its structural integrity, electrical function, and charging capability.

These tests affirm Mahindra’s commitment to engineering vehicles that meet and exceed global safety standards.

Performance and Range

Built on Mahindra’s in-house INGLO platform, the XEV 9e and BE 6e offer impressive performance with two battery options: 59 kWh and 79 kWh. The larger battery pack provides a real-world range of over 500 km on a single charge. Both models support ultra-fast charging, allowing for a 20-80% charge in just 20 minutes using a 175 kW DC charger. The XEV 9e can accelerate from 0 to 100 km/h in 6.7 seconds, ensuring a dynamic driving experience.

Booking for the XEV 9e and BE 6e will begin in January,
