War of the Classics! Let’s see how the Royal Enfield Classic 650 and BSA GoldStar 650 stack up against each other. Royal Enfield classic 650 was unveiled at EICMA 2024 and soon it will be launched in India as well. This bike will be a direct competition to BSA Goldstar 650 which was recently launched in India. The BSA Goldstar 650 is priced at the starting price of INR 2,99,990 (ex showroom). However, the price of the Royal Enfield classic 650 is yet to be disclosed.
Royal Enfield classic 650 and BSA Goldstar 650: Proportion and Measurement
The Royal Enfield classic 650 has a length of 2138 mm, width of 892 mm, height of 1137 mm and wheelbase of 1475 mm. On the other hand, the BSA Goldstar 650 has a length of 2206 mm, width of 817 mm, height 1093 mm and wheelbase of 1425 mm. This shows that Royal Enfield 650 is comparatively longer, wider and taller than the BSA 650. It also has a 50 mm longer wheelbase than the BSA Goldstar 650. The fuel capacity of the Royal Enfield classic 650 is 14.8-litres and the BSA Goldstar 650 has a fuel capacity of 12-litres. This clearly shows that the fuel capacity of the Royal Enfield classic 650 is more than that of BSA 650 by 2.8-Litres.
However, the BSA 650’s kerb weight and seat height is 213 kg and 780 mm whereas the RE’s 650 has a kerb weight of 243 kg and seat height of 800 mm which clearly indicates that the BSA Goldstar 650 is lighter and lower than Royal Enfield 650 which makes BSA better for handling. When it comes to ground clearance the Royal Enfield classic 650 has a ground clearance of 154 mm and BSA 650 has 150 mm indicating that Royal Enfield has a better ground clearance.
Powertrain
The Royal Enfield classic 650 has a 648 cc, twin cylinder, air-cooled – SOHC engine that gives out the power of 46.4 bhp and 52.3 Nm of torque. On the other hand the BSA 650 is a single cylinder bike with the 652 cc, liquid-cooled, DOHC engine that generates the power of 45 bhp and 55 Nm torque. Also, the RE 650 has 6 speed gearbox and BSA 650 has 5 speed gearbox. This clearly indicates that Royal Enfield classic 650 offers more power however, BSA 650 offers more torque. When it comes to fuel efficiency the BSA Goldstar 650 has higher fuel efficiency of 24.99 kpl than that of Royal Enfield Classic 650 which has the fuel efficiency of 21.46 kpl.
Royal Enfield classic 650 vs BSA Goldstar 650: Hardware front
The Royal Enfield Classic 650 has a steel tubular spine frame supported by twin shock absorbers at the rear and 43 mm telescopic forks at front. Whereas, the BSA Goldstar 650 has dual shock absorbers at the rear with a 5-step preload adjustment and a double-cradle tubular frame with 41 mm front telescopic forks at front. The Royal Enfield Classic 650’s 300 mm rear disc brake is larger than the Goldstar 650’s 255 mm unit. However, both bikes have 320 mm front disc brakes. The Goldstar BSA 650 has 18-inch tyres at front and 17-inch tyres at the rear, whilst the Classic 650 has 19-inch at front and 18-inch at rear.
