The latest generation of the Maruti Suzuki Dzire has achieved a remarkable milestone by scoring a 5-star safety rating from Global NCAP. This is the first time a Maruti Suzuki car has received such a high rating, marking a significant improvement over the previous model, which only managed a 2-star rating.
Safety Features and Ratings
The new Dzire was tested for both adult and child occupant protection. In the adult occupant protection test, the Dzire scored 31.24 out of 34 points, while in the child occupant protection test, it scored 39.20 out of 49 points. The car is equipped with six airbags, Electronic Stability Control (ESC), ISOFIX child seat mounts, and three-point seatbelts for all seating positions as standard.
Structural Integrity
The bodyshell and footwell area of the Dzire were rated as stable and capable of withstanding further loadings. The frontal impact test showed good protection for the driver’s and passenger’s heads and necks, with marginal protection for the driver’s chest and adequate protection for the passenger’s chest. The side impact test and pole test also demonstrated good protection for adult occupants.
Market Impact
The new Dzire is expected to be launched in India on November 11, 2024. The price of the car is not yet announced but we expect it to start between INR 6-7 lakh. The car offers a range of variants, including LXI, VXI, ZXI, and ZXI+, with automatic trims available in higher variants. The Dzire features a new 1.2-litre, 3-cylinder, NA petrol engine with 82 hp power and 112 Nm torque. There will be a CNG option available as well.
Our Thoughts
The 5-star rating from Global NCAP sets a new safety benchmark for Maruti Suzuki and highlights the company’s commitment to improving vehicle safety. Indian consumers are shifting towards buying safer cars. With brands like Mahindra, Tata, Volkswagen and Skoda consistently scoring 5-stars, it is good to see Maruti Suzuki also aiming for higher safety ratings.
