TVS planning rival for E-Luna, patent leaks

Written by Nizam Shaikh

TVS could be planning to launch a new electric scooter based on its popular XL moped. According to reports, the TVS XL electric could be already under development and is likely to make its debut within the next 6 months. Currently, TVS only retails the iQube in its electric bike portfolio, but the company also has the TVS X which has been showcased, however, the deliveries have not yet commenced.

Design

The electric version of the XL could be called XL EV or E-XL and is likely to look similar to the TVS XL moped. Reports also reveal the design patents of the TVS XL electric which appear to be on the lines similar to the XL but instead of the internal combustion engine the XL electric will come with a battery pack that is likely to sit near the footboard. This will further help keep the centre of gravity low on the electric moped. Patents also reveal that the electric powered XL is likely to come with a mid-mounted electric motor with a chain or belt driving the rear wheel.

Range, Charging & Top Speed

While specification of the battery and motor are still scarce, expect that the XL electric is likely to offer a range of around 90 km to 100 km on a single charge. The electric moped is also likely offer a top speed of around 50 kmph. The moped is also likely to come with a charging time of around 3-4 hours which will keep its turn-around-time low. And thanks to this, we also speculate that more than for personal use the electric TVS XL could become an apt vehicle for B2B use, especially in the last mile delivery sector.

The brand is likely to unveil that TVS XL electric at the Bharat Expo 2025 and is likely to rival the Kinetic E-Luna in the Indian market.
