Kawasaki could be planning to introduce the larger retro styled W-series motorcycle to the Indian market, the Kawasaki W230. The brand already has the locally assembled W175 on sale in the Indian market. However, the company is likely to soon bring the Kawasaki W230, its larger sibling which also draws the design inspiration from the 1960 Kawasaki W1. The Kawasaki W230 is also likely to be locally assembled and it is likely that Kawasaki may discontinue the smaller W175 replacing it with the W230 which is likely to gain more customers.
Modern Retro
The Kawasaki W230 is likely to be a retro styled motorcycle with a rounded headlamp which could be of the LED type. The classic motorcycle is also likely to come with a teardrop shaped fuel tank as well as large fenders. The seats on the W230 are scooped and to give it a classic touch the bike comes with pleated upholstery. The Kawasaki W230 is also likely to come with an analogue twin-pot speedometer cluster to keep it period correct, but gets a small digital odometer/trip meter giving it a modern touch.
Powertrain
The 233cc single-cylinder air-cooled 2-valve engine on the W230 is likely to make 20 PS of power and 19 Nm of torque matched to a 6-speed gearbox. In the parts bin, the Kawasaki W230 is likely to come with a double cradle frame along with a 37mm front fork suspension and dual shock absorbers on the rear. The bike is also likely to come with 17-inch wire spoke wheels and road biased tyres. Also, the W230 is likely to come with disc brakes on both ends equipped with ABS for safety.
The Kawasaki W230 is likely to share parts with the KLX 230 S which is a dual sport motorcycle, at least in the engine department which will help the brand cut down costs and price both the bike competitively in the Indian market.
