Hyundai Motor India Limited (HMIL) has commenced the export of its entry-level SUV, the Hyundai Exter, to South Africa. This move marks a notable expansion in Hyundai’s international market presence and underscores the growing importance of India as a manufacturing hub for the global automotive industry.
The first shipment of 996 units of the Hyundai Exter has been dispatched to South Africa, making it the eighth model from Hyundai’s Indian portfolio to be exported to this market. The Exter joins a lineup that includes the Grand i10 Nios, Aura, i20, i20 N Line, Venue, Venue N Line, and Alcazar.
The Hyundai Exter: A Closer Look
The Hyundai Exter, which has already garnered significant attention in the Indian market, is equipped with a 1197 cc engine, offering power outputs ranging from 67.72 bhp to 81.8 bhp. It is available in both manual and automatic transmission options, providing a mileage of 19.2 to 19.4 kmpl. The model also features Hyundai’s Hy-CNG (Dual Cylinder CNG) technology and is available in multiple variants including the new Knight Edition.
Strategic Importance of the Tamil Nadu Plant
Hyundai’s manufacturing plant in Tamil Nadu plays a crucial role in the company’s export strategy. The facility is known for its advanced production capabilities and adherence to high-quality standards, making it a key asset in Hyundai’s global supply chain. The plant’s ability to produce vehicles that meet international standards has been instrumental in Hyundai’s success in markets like South Africa.
Celebrating 20 Years of Exports
This year is particularly special for Hyundai Motor India as it marks two decades of exporting vehicles to South Africa. Jae Wan Ryu, Function Head – Corporate Planning at HMIL, highlighted the significance of this milestone, stating, “South Africa has always been an important export market for us. Our products, manufactured at our state-of-the-art facility in Tamil Nadu, have consistently received a warm welcome in South Africa. The Hyundai Exter is expected to replicate its success story and popularity in India in the South African market as well”.
