Hero MotoCorp has commenced road testing for its much-anticipated Xoom 125R scooter. This development signals that the official launch is just around the corner, potentially adding a new dynamic to the competitive 125cc scooter segment.
A Glimpse into the Xoom 125R
The Hero Xoom 125R was first showcased at the EICMA motorcycle show in Milan last year, alongside its sibling, the Xoom 160. The Xoom 125R has been designed to cater to the growing demand for sporty and feature-rich scooters in the Indian market. Recent spy shots reveal a scooter that is not only stylish but also packed with practical features.
Design and Features
The Xoom 125R sports a sharp and edgy design, distinguishing itself from the existing Xoom 110. It features LED projector headlights with a striking LED DRL signature, split LED tail lights, and LED turn indicators. The scooter is expected to come with large 14-inch wheels, a first for an Indian petrol scooter, which should enhance stability and ride comfort12.
In terms of ergonomics, the Xoom 125R is designed to offer a more upright riding position, making it suitable for taller riders. The scooter also boasts a larger floorboard, twin gloveboxes with a USB charger, ample under-seat storage with an LED light, and a spacious seat, enhancing its practicality for daily use.
Performance and Specifications
Under the hood, the Xoom 125R is powered by a 124.6cc, single-cylinder, air-cooled engine, similar to the one found in the new Destini 125. This engine is expected to produce around 9.4 bhp of peak power at 7,500 RPM and 10.16 Nm of peak torque at 6,000 RPM. The scooter will feature a fully digital instrument cluster with Bluetooth connectivity, offering turn-by-turn navigation and notification alerts.
Market Positioning and Competition
The Hero Xoom 125R is set to compete with other popular 125cc scooters such as the TVS Ntorq 125, Suzuki Avenis 125, Honda Dio 125, Yamaha Ray ZR 125, and Aprilia SR 125.
The road testing phase indicates that the Xoom 125R is nearing its final production form. Industry insiders suggest that the official launch could coincide with the festive season later this year, making it an exciting addition to Hero MotoCorp’s lineup just in time for the peak buying period.
