Written by Nizam Shaikh

Yamaha could be planning to launch the much-awaited Tenere 700 in the Indian market. The brand is likely to have commenced the initial phase of the project and the motorcycle could make its debit in 2025. The Japanese manufacture is likely to bring the Tenere 700 via the much expensive CBU (Completely built-up Unit) route. However the question is how aggressive will Yamaha price the Tenere 700 in the Indian market.

Full Import from Japan?

Reports reveal that most Adventure motorcycle come as a full import from Thailand and thanks to the Free Trade Agreement between Thailand and India, there is no import duty implied on the motorcycles. However, if Yamaha imports the Tenere 700 from Japan the bike will come with heavy duties increasing its price here. Also, Yamaha produces the Tenere 700 only in Japan and France which do not have a FTA with India.

Design

The Yamaha Tenere 700 comes with a Dakar inspired design language and features an upright fascia along with a flat seat section, raised fuel tank and a sleek tail. The motorcycle also comes with a rally tower inspired cockpit and a large windscreen. The Tenere 700 also comes with boxy side panels that cover the radiator bits. The bike also gets an upswept exhaust system as well as minimal side panels.

Mechanical Parts & Engine

In the part bin, the Yamaha Tenere 700 comes with features such as a lightweight, high-strength double-cradle tubular steel frame. The chassis rides on 43mm fully adjustable upside-down front fork long-travel suspension and a remote preload-adjustable linkage-type rear shock. The Tenere 700 also come with a 21-inch front and 18-inch rear spoked wheels shod in dual-sport tyres. The motorcycle also comes with dual 282mm disc brakes on the front and a single 245mm hydraulic disc on the rear with ABS. Powering the Yamaha Tenere 700 is a CP2 series, 689cc liquid-cooled engine with Yamaha’s Crossplane Crankshaft technology that produces 73.4 PS of power and 68 Nm of torque matched to a 6-speed gearbox.
