Electric mobility company, BYD which is an acronym for “Build Your Dreams” has registered sales more than Honda and Nissan in the Q2 of 2024. According to reports, the boost in sales of the Chinese company is thanks to the introduction of low cost electric vehicles in the global markets. Reports further reveal that BYD is not just overtaking Nissan and Honda is terms of sales but also closing in on Ford.
BYD Global Sales
The company claims a sales of 9.80 lakh units between April and June 2024 which is a boost of 40% in its sales. This has not only led the Chinese brand to overtake the famous Japanese carmakers but also in becoming the 7th-largest carmaker in the world. The electric car maker caters to various international markets including Europe, Mexico, Brazil, Thailand, India and other South East Asian countries.
The brand is also in the process of opening overseas facilities Hungary, Brazil, Turkey, Mexico and Pakistan, in addition to the already opened plant in Thailand. While the American carmaker Ford has registered 1.14 Million sales in the Q2 of 2024 and the only Japanese carmaker to have sold more vehicles than BYD in Q2 2024 is Toyota.
BYD in India
BYD also has a strong presence in the electric vehicle market space in the Indian market. The company retails the BYD Seal electric sedan, the BYD Atto3 SUV and the BYD e6 MPV in the Indian market. The latest addition to its India portfolio, the Seal has seen a fairly good response in India. The brand bagged more than 1,000 bookings of the high-performance electric sedan in just over two months of its launch.
The BYD Seal electric sedan starts with a price tag of 41,00,000 ex-showroom and the price tag goes up to INR 53,00,000 ex-showroom. The brand also achieved the milestone of delivering 200 BYD Seal electric luxury sedans across several major Indian cities. These includes Mumbai, Delhi NCR, Bengaluru, Chennai, Hyderabad, and Kochi, all in a single day.
