Kia India has announced that the brand has achieved the 1 Million unit sales milestone in the Indian market. The Korean carmaker is also celebrating its 5th year in India and has become one of the fastest automotive manufacturers to achieve this milestone.
In its 59 months of operations in India, the Kia Seltos SUV has turned out to be the success driver for the brand. The Seltos accounts for over 48% of the total domestic sales in the country followed by the Kia Sonet and the Carens which hold 34% and 16% contribution, respectively. These are Kia India’s total domestic dispatches.
Kia Brings Futuristic Products to India
Since 2019, when Kia commenced operation, the brand has not only brought to the country its futuristic design philosophy but also advanced technologies. Thanks to this, the brand has become one of the most aspirational and go to product in the Indian market. Kia also reveals that 42% of its sales come from the top trims, even though the Indian market is quite cost sensitive.
In fact, Kia reveals that through thoughtful variant strategy, the brand has managed to introduce newer transmission options and features 3 different automatic transmission option on its cars which includes the Intelligent Variable Transmission (CVT), 6AT – a torque converter automatic as well as a 7DCT which is a dual clutch automatic transmission. The automatic trim contribute to 32% of sales in the Indian market. Also, the iMT (Intelligent Manual Transmission was first offered in 202 on the Kia Sonet and contributes to 15% of domestic dispatches. The brand also reveals that the Petrol to Diesel ratio currently remains at 59%:41%.
Kia India Sales Volume
Kia’s annual sales volume in the country began with 45,226 units in 2019 which grew to 140,505 units in 2020. Furthermore, even during the COVID-19 era, the domestic sales of Kia cars in India grew to 181,583 units on 2021 and 254,556 units in 2022. Also, last year, Kia India reported sales of 255,000 units and the brand has sold nearly 150,000 cars in the first 7 months of 2024, in the domestic market. Kia also dispatched over 260,000 units to over 100 export markets from India and the cumulative sales stands at nearly 1.4 Million units.
