MG Motor India recently released an intriguing teaser for its upcoming electric vehicle (EV) based on the Wuling Cloud EV. Positioned as their third EV in the Indian market, the new MG EV is set to compete with other popular models. Let’s dive into what we know so far:
Design Elements and Features
The teaser video reveals several design highlights, including:
-
-
- Dynamic alloy wheel design
- Sleek LED daytime running lights (DRLs)
- An end-to-end LED light bar spanning the width of the vehicle
- An illuminated MG logo
- Hints at a sunroof and a two-spoke steering wheel
-
The Cloud EV aims to attract young buyers with its tall stance, coupe-like roof, and large wheels.
Powertrain and Range
-
- The Cloud EV is likely to feature the same 50.3 kWh battery pack as the MG ZS EV.
- It will be paired with a front axle-mounted motor producing 176 hp and 280 Nm of torque.
- Due to its lighter weight, the Cloud EV might offer an enhanced range compared to the ZS EV’s claimed 461 km.
- A global-spec variant with 134 hp and 200 Nm (equipped with a 37.9 kWh battery) could provide up to 360 km of range.
Competitive Pricing
MG aims to position the Cloud EV competitively under Rs 20 lakh (ex-showroom). It will fit between the compact Comet EV and the ZS EV. Rivals include the Tata Curvv EV, Nexon EV, and XUV400.
While JSW MG Motor India has not revealed the launch timeline, given that the teaser is already out, we can see the launch of the new EV in the latter half of August or early September. Also, since the EV sold as the Wuling Cloud in China, JSW MG Motor India could adopt a new name for the EV.
