Hyundai Alcazar has the best engine & gearbox options for you

Written by Nizam Shaikh

Hyundai launched the Alcazar in the Indian market 3 years ago. However, it will not be an understatement if we say that the 3-row SUV features one of the best engine and gearbox options. While many manufacturers began shelving their diesel engines from Indian as well as international markets when stricter emission norms rolled in, Hyundai continued to upgrade its engine line-up offering a spirited turbo-petrol as well as torquey and efficient diesel engine option on the Alcazar. In addition to this, the brand also offers a number of gearbox options with the Alcazar. So without further ado lets deep dive into the technical specifications of the engine that Hyundai offers on the Alcazar in the Indian market.

Smooth Yet Spirited Turbo-Petrol Engine

Powering the Hyundai Alcazar is a 1.5-litre turbocharged gasoline direct injection engine that develops 160 PS of power @ 5,500 rpm and 253 Nm of torque between 1,500 and 3,500 rpm. The turbo-petrol engine not only offers a smooth sailing experience of the gasoline motor, but also returns a fuel efficiency of up to 18 km/litre. The 16-valve DOHC 4-cylinder engine is also powerful enough with a torque output, that it even rivals most diesel engines of a similar capacity. What’s impressive is the refinement of the motor, which allows occupants to enjoy a calm and relaxing drive. NVH package is second to none, so once you drive an Alcazar, competition cars feel noisy inside.

Efficient & Torquey Diesel Engine

But an SUV is ought to be a diesel, is the opinion of the populace. Well, Hyundai is also of the same mind. That is why the brand continues to offer the SUV with a diesel engine even after the stringent BS6 emission standards. The Alcazar comes with a 1.5-litre turbocharged oil burning motor producing 116 PS of power @ 4,000 rpm and 250 Nm of torque between 1,500 rpm and 2,570 rpm. The 4-cylinder Common Rail Diesel Injection engine with Dual Overhead Cam Shaft (DOHC) also claims to return a mileage of up to 20.4 km/litre. That’s more than 20 km to a litre from a 3-row 7-seater SUV, what else do you need? The motor packs enough punch to move around with a full load of passengers & luggage. Even the diesel motor is so refined, that some competitor cars with petrol motors under the hood are more noisy than the Alcazar diesel.

Multiple Transmission Options

Hyundai not only offers the 3-row Alcazar with two great engine options, but also offers three transmission options across the engine range. The turbo-petrol motor, which can also be considered as a drivers car, comes with either a 6-speed manual transmission or an automatic 7-speed Dual Clutch Transmission (DCT). Additionally, Hyundai also offers the family car with quick responding sporty paddle shifters on the steering wheel which was a segment first when the SUV was launched in our market.

The diesel engine option also comes with two gearbox options. A 6-speed manual that gives the driver full control, who with his driving skill can retain a mileage of more than 20 km/litre. However, the easy going customer can also opt for the 6-speed torque converter type automatic transmission option. Both the petrol and diesel engine options also offer Cruise Control technology with the Hyundai Alcazar. Thanks to this, the driver can sit relaxed behind the steering wheel on long drives.

Thanks to both the petrol and diesel engine options, customers can get the best of both worlds on the Hyundai Alcazar SUV. This coupled with manual, automatic and DCT gearbox options brings an unmatched deal to the table. And with prices starting at just INR 16,77,500, the Alcazar is an absolute bargain.
