Citroen Basalt coupe SUV production has begun in India

Citroen will soon be launching the Basalt coupe SUV in the Indian market. The brand is currently road testing the car, as seen in spyshots that emerged on the internet in the past. However, a new media report suggests that the Citroen Basalt has entered series production and is likely to hit Indian roads soon. The French manufacturer is likely to manufacture the Basalt coupe-SUV at the Thiruvallur production facility in Tamil Nadu. The coupe-SUV is likely to be produced alongside the Citroen C3 Aircross and its EV avatar the E-C3.

Citroen Basalt – Powertrain

While Citroen has not revealed much about the Basalt Coupe SUV, but reports reveal that the Basalt is likely to use the same powertrain as the C3 Aircross. The compact SUV is powered by a 1.2-litre 3-cylinder turbo-petrol engine that produces 110 Hp of power and 190 Nm of torque matched to a manual gearbox. The C3 Aircross also comes with an Automatic transmission option which has an uprated torque figure, upto 205 Nm. The Basalt is likely to come with both a manual as well as an automatic transmission options.

Citroen Basalt – Design

Design-wise, the Citroen Basalt coupe SUV comes with both the design dynamics of the coupe as well as an SUV. Furthermore, the Basalt also features geometric shapes on its sides and a trailing edge on the rear. Additionally, the Basalt Coupe SUV also comes with a high-bonnet and ground clearance. The Basalt also features trapezoidal wheel arches and wide wings complimenting well with the 5-door design of the car.

Citroen Basalt – Competition

Upon its launch in India, the Citroen Basalt will directly compete with the Tata Curvv coupe SUV. In addition to this, the Basalt is also likely to compete with other SUVs such as the Hyundai Creta, Kia Seltos, Maruti Grand Vitara and the likes.
