Hyundai could be planning to enter Formula 1 racing by buying an F1 team. However, it turns out that there are currently no Formula 1 teams for sale. Hyundai is not new to the motorsport world and the company has proved itself by winning the manufacturer’s crown twice in World Rally Championships. Hyundai is also the fourth largest car manufacturer in the world and F1 is also likely to expand its reach to South Korea. Rumours also suggest that Hyundai could be planning to host the South Korean GP which if timed well could allow the brand to debut a Hyundai Formula 1 in Incheon.
Hyundai F1 in 2026?
While Hyundai could buy an F1 team to make its entry into the sport, Andretti has been trying to enter the game from the ground’s up. But the team has been facing quite a few hurdles but is likely to join F1 in 2026 when the team is likely to have GM powered engine. Having said that, if Hyundai purchases an existing team, the company may have to use the power unit from a rival manufacturer. In addition to this, it is also possible that when the new regulations kick in, which are likely to make a push towards hybrid powertrain, Hyundai is likely to bring its own power unit.
Hyundai Racing Division
With hybridisation of Formula 1 power units Audi is also likely to jump in into the F1 game. It is also being reported that Honda is also likely to make a come back and Ford might partner with Red Bull Racing when the new regulations are announced for the 2026 season. In other news, Hyundai this year also launched its first domestic one-make electric car race, eN1 Cup at the Hyundai N Festival. The company is also invested into World rally Championships (WRC) and Touring Car Racing (TCR) series, internationally.
