Porsche has revealed the new 911 Carrera GTS with a lightweight and powerful T-Hybrid system. The new Porsche 911 Carrera GTS also comes with changes to the exteriors, refreshed interiors as well as enhancements to the aerodynamic surfaces.
The brand also revealed that the new 911 Carrera GTS is the first street-legal 911 equipped with a super-lightweight performance hybrid system. Furthermore, Porsche revealed that the 911 Carrera GTS is now available to order in the international market with all-wheel drive and the Targa body variant equipped with Porsche Doppelkupplung (PDK) as standard.
Porsche 911 Carrera GTS – Powertrain
Powering the Porsche 911 Carrera GTS is a newly developed 3.6-litre boxer engine with T-Hybrid drive. The new engine has an enlarged bore of 97 mm and an increased stroke of 81 mm, then the predecessor. In addition to this, the engine also comes with VarioCam camshaft control and a valve control with rocker arms. The result is 485 PS of power and 570 Nm of torque even without electrification.
With a permanent magnet synchronous motor integrated into the PDK system offers an extra drive torque of up to 150 Nm and provides a power boost of up to 40 kW. With hybrid drive, the 911 Carrera GTS produces 541 PS of power and 610 Nm of torque. The brand also reveals that the high-voltage system allows the air-conditioning compressor to be driven electrically and the belt drive to be omitted which makes more space above the power unit for the pulse inverter and DC-DC converter.
Porsche 911 Carrera GTS – What’s New?
The Porsche 911 Carrera GTS also comes with rear-axle steering now as standard. The brand has also optimised the suspension of the car with Porsche Dynamic Chassis Control (PDCC) anti-roll stabilisation system. The electric hydraulic system also comes with a variable damper system (PASM) and a lower ride height by 10 mm provide characteristic GTS handling.
The car is now also available with exclusive design wheels and carbon blades that reduce the drag coefficient. The 911 Carrera GTS also comes with a streamlined exterior design with new, model-specific bumpers. The front end of the car also has five vertically arranged active cooling air flaps, which are visible from the outside. The car also gets adaptive front diffusers in the underbody.
The Porsche 911 Carrera GTS also comes with new headlights with an HD matrix LED function which has 32,000 light points. The high beam function claims to illuminate a distance of more than 600 metres. The new car also gets a fully digital instruments cluster with a new 12.6-inch curved display. The car also comes with a 10.9-inch high-resolution central display screen.
As of now, Porsche has not announced if the brand is bringing the high performance sports car to India.
