The Citroen Basalt, a made-for-India coupe SUV, has been spotted road testing in Chennai. The test mule was heavily camouflaged, revealing only the rear end of the vehicle. Citroen India did reveal the Basalt Vision Concept a few weeks ago and the spy shots confirm some details that the concept has.
A Glimpse of the Exterior
The spy shots captured the rear end of the Citroen Basalt, which is expected to feature a high-set boot lid flanked by LED tail lamps. These tail lamps are anticipated to have a new lighting signature, different from the C3 Aircross. The production-spec Basalt is expected to measure 4.3 meters in length, similar to the C3 Aircross, and will feature black cladding all around. The flap-type door handles will also make it to the production-spec car.
Sneak Peek into the Interior
The previous spy shots also revealed the interior of the Citroen Basalt. The dashboard and feature list appear to be the same as the C3 Aircross. The spy shots show details such as the 10.23-inch touchscreen infotainment system, 7-inch digital driver’s display, AC knobs with a satin chrome finish, and manual day/night inside rearview mirror (IRVM). Like the C3 Aircross, the Basalt is likely to feature automatic climate control. It is also expected to get features like cruise control and keyless entry.
Expected Powertrain Options
Although Citroen hasn’t revealed the powertrain specifications of the 2024 Basalt, it is expected to feature the same engine and transmission as the C3 Aircross. This means the Basalt could launch with a 1.2-litre turbo petrol engine that produces 110 PS of power and 190 Nm of torque, mated to a 6-speed manual transmission or a 6-speed automatic transmission. The Basalt might also get an electric powertrain months after the ICE variant is launched.
The SUV will go on sale in the second half of this year. It will be launched around the same time as the Tata Curvv which will also be its direct rival.
