Yamaha has announced the launch of its new Yamaha R3 and MT-03 in India. The Yamaha R3 comes with a price tag of INR 4,64,900 ex-showroom, Delhi. While the Yamaha MT-03 is priced at INR 4,59,900 ex-showroom, Delhi. The brand is bringing both the motorcycles to India via the CBU (Completely Built-Up Unit) route.
Also, Yamaha will retail both the premium mid-segment motorcycles via select Yamaha Blue Square dealerships. In addition to this, customers can also book the Yamaha YFZ-R3 and the MT-03 through the India Yamaha Motor’s Website. Yamaha is offering two colours on the R3 – Icon Blue & Yamaha Black. The MT-03 comes with Midnight Cyan & Midnight Black colour options.
Yamaha R3 – What’s New?
Compared to the Yamaha YZF-R3 that was in the Indian market, before its discontinuation, not much has changed. This is more or less a refreshed version of the same R3 sold in India. New features include an updated front fascia, new suspension and electronics. Changes include addition of new body panels with a new design that borrows cues from the YZR-R1. The R3 Also gets a new LED headlamp and LED indicators. The fuel tank shroud is also new and the bike now comes with Upside-Down front suspension. Also, new is the backlit-LCD instruments cluster along with new switch gear.
Yamaha R3 – Track Oriented Efficiency
Yamaha claims that the brand has achieved a near 50/50 weight distribution on the R3 making it more track friendly. Also, the new R3 features better aerodynamic efficiency thanks to the fairings and windscreen. The cross layered wing and air duct also direct the airflow to the radiator improving the thermodynamic efficiency.
Yamaha MT-03 – Design and Features
While the Yamaha R3 was previously available in India, the MT-03 is a completely fresh product. The street-oriented motorcycle shares its underpinnings with the Yamaha R3 in a tightly packed design. The MT-03 comes with a distinctive tank cowling design and sharp headlamp shrouds. In addition to this, the MT-03 also comes with projector LED headlamps and twin eye positioned lights. The rider’s triangle is less aggressive but the rear half of the motorcycle shares its components with R3. This includes the entire tail section and other mechanical bits.
Yamaha R3 and MT-03 – Technical Specifications
Powering the Yamaha R3 and the MT-03 is a 321cc in-line two-cylinder liquid cooled engine. The engine boasts an all-aluminum DiASil cylinder with offset design and heat-resistant pistons. The DOHC 8-valve motor produces 42 PS of power and 29.5 Nm of torque. Both bikes come with a 6-speed transmission. Both bike come with a light-weight diamond frame, USD forks, 573mm long swingarm and mono-cross rear suspension. In addition to this, the bikes also get 298mm front and 220mm rear disc brakes.
