Harley-Davidson fans can rejoice. The American bike maker has opened the bookings for its X440 roadster in India. Booking amount for the same is set at INR 25,000. The X440 is the first bike under the joint venture of Harley-Davidson and Hero MotoCorp. Under the agreement, Hero will handle the manufacturing, sales as well as post-sales for the American bike maker.
Harley-Davidson X440 : More Details
From the images, we can see that the latest Harley bike features neo-retro design language. It is a mid-capacity motorcycle and comes with round LED headlamps, a mono pod instrument cluster along with a tear drop design fuel tank. The Harley-Davidson X440 gets a one-piece seat and features a flat handlebar, cruiser-esque forward set footpegs and a side mounted exhaust.
The X440 is built up on a tubular chassis with upside-down (USD) front forks along with dual shockers at the back. The front gets an 18-inch alloy while the rear comes with a 17-incher. Braking duties are handled by disc brakes with dual channel ABS.
Powertrain of the Harley-Davidson X440
As the name implies, this Harley-Davidson comes with a 440cc single cylinder engine. This is quite a departure from the usual Harley bikes. That said, the engine could be more powerful that the Royal Enfield’s 350cc unit. Other details of the engine are not yet known, but the bike comes with a chain drive system to drive the rear wheel.
Hero’s expansion into the premium bike segment
Back in October 2020, Hero MotoCorp and Harley-Davidson announced their partnership for the Indian market. Under this, Hero will be manufacturing and selling a bunch of motorcycles under the Harley brand name. The Indian company will also take care of all the service and parts for the Harley-Davidson range of motorcycles.
Hero is using this opportunity to enter the premium bike segment in India. Being the market leader in the 100-110cc segment, Hero is considering expansion in the other segments. One of these is the highly rewarding premium bike segment.
