Big news from the house of MG as it has launched the Comet EV. With a starting price of INR 7.98 lakh (ex-showroom, India), this new EV looks quite promising. The Comet EV makes itself a segment of its own. MG is targeting buyers who are looking for a city runabout with a small footprint. The Comet EV arrived at the showrooms for test drives on April 27. Meanwhile, the bookings for the three-door EV will begin on May 15. MG mentioned that it plans to start off with the deliveries a month later, i.e. in June.
MG Comet EV Design Highlights
Based on the Wuling Air EV, the Comet EV gets a very boxy design language. Although we get to see a lot of interesting touches. This includes a full-width LED light bar, as MG calls the Extended Horizon connecting lights. Alongside, there is also a strip of chrome and piano black that connects both wing mirrors. The charging port for the Comet EV is available at the front, under the light bar, with its flap housing an illuminated MG logo.
The Comet EV gets 12-inch alloy wheels which is the smallest wheel size on any vehicle available in the market currently. The EV also gets an asymmetrical window design. As the rear windows mount vertically. Come to the rear, there are more surprises. The Comet EV gets the Extended Horizon connecting lights, a trademark feature in cars lately. Customers can get the comes in five colours with multiple graphics packs categorised under sticker styles and lit packs.
MG Comet EV Interiors
Interiors are where the Comet EV makes an instant impression. It has a white and grey interior but the main talking point is the two 10.25-inch screens. One serves as the infotainment system while the other serves as the digital instrument cluster. The front passenger seat also has a one-touch tumble and fold feature. Meanwhile, the rear seats get a 50:50 split. The Comet also features a rotary drive selector, adding to the convenience.
MG Comet EV Featuers On Offer
The Comet EV benefits from a slew of features. The notable ones include wireless Android Auto and Apple CarPlay, manual AC controls, steering-mounted controls, keyless entry, three USB ports and over 55 connected features. Safety features on the Comet EV include ABS, EBD, reverse camera, tyre pressure monitoring system (TPMS) and sensors as well as dual front airbags.
MG Comet EV Powertrain Details
MG Comet EV comes equipped with a 17.3kWh battery. This is IP67-rated for both water and dust. MG claims an ARAI-certified range of 230km. MG is also offering a 3.3kW onboard charger that takes a good seven hours to fully charge the battery.
The Comet gets a single electric motor that makes 42 HP and 110 Nm of torque. Power is sent to the rear wheels via an automatic gearbox. Comet measures 2,974mm in length, 1,505mm in width and 1,640mm in height with a wheelbase of 2,010mm.
Other Options To MG Comet EV
We understand that the MG Comet EV sits in its own niche segment. But in terms of pricing it rivals the likes of the Tata Tiago EV and the Citroen eC3.
