MV Agusta has mostly been known for its futuristic, aggressively-designed and powerful streetfighters along with powerful sportbikes. However, the company has now shifted focus to more commuter friendly vehicles. These include electric scooters and e-bikes. Now, the Italian bike maker has announced a new all-electric scooter in partnership with Kymco. The scooter will be dubbed as Ampelio.
Design of the MV Agusta Ampelio
The Ampelio takes inspiration from the CGT and Ovunque – the mid-century scooters. The scooter has been designed by Maksim Ponomarev with an aim to offer a new fresh design as well as preserve MV Agusta’s past. Kymco’s partnership has allowed MV Agusta to use the S7 concept as the base for the Ampelio. The S7 Concept was unveiled back in 2021 at the EICMA Show.
Powertrain of the MV Augusta Ampelio
While the S7 has a 4.1 kWh electric motor, it is not yet certain if the Ampelio would get the same stats. The range is claimed to be in excess of 136 km with both the batteries fully charged. The scooter weights a tad over 121 kg with the batteries mounted low, aiding the centre of gravity. We can expect the same setup on the Ampelio.
The MV Agusta Ampelio will be offered with a minimum of two riding modes, an electronic steering lock, keyless ignition, LED lights and ABS. Accessories like luggage and top cases as well as covers are under development.
Production and Launch details
While there is no official information yet on the production or its price, the Ampelio can be a good starting point for the brand’s entry into the electric segment. Kymco has the experience and proven technology in the EV and battery space which could result in the Ampelio being on the roads sooner than expected.
