Toyota has unveiled fresh details of its biggest SUV ever, the Sequoia. The car is set to go on sale in North America first. Sequoia is not a new nameplate for the Japanese carmaker. The second-generation model made its debut way back in 2008. And now, the third-generation model will make its mark in 2023. This SUV will mainly target the US and Middle Eastern market, essentially replacing the Land Cruiser 300. It is so because Toyota has no plans of continuing with the Land Cruiser 300 brand.
What Is The Toyota Sequoia?
Underpinned by the same platform as that of the Tundra pickup truck, Sequoia also has some resemblance with the new Land Cruiser 300 and the Lexus LX600 luxury SUV. The suspension setup comprises independent front dampers and a multi-link layout at the back. Customers wanting to get an adaptive suspension can avail of the load-levelling air system for the rear.
Being an SUV, Toyota has no room for customers to complain. The styling is pretty much spot on and gets a very macho appearance all throughout. Further adding to the looks are the muscular fenders and squarish-wheel arches. The front grille is different and varies from trim to trim. On the inside, one familiar with the Tundra will spot some shared parts. Customers have the option to choose the 2nd row as captain seats or bench configuration. In terms of kits, Toyota has included heated seats, a moonroof, a 12.3-inch digital instrument cluster, a panoramic-view camera system, a 14-inch infotainment system and Toyota Safety Sense 2.5.
Mechanical and Powertrain
Powering the SUV is a 3.5-litre twin-turbo V6 petrol engine matched to a ten-speed automatic. There’s only one single powertrain and gearbox option. However, customers can opt for a two or an optional part-time four-wheel-drive system for all trim levels. Toyota is also offering the TRD Pro package but is only available with 4WD. The 4WD variants get some extra off-roading equipment. The list includes a locking rear differential, 18-inch wheels, Multi-Terrain Select system, downhill assist control and crawl control. The suspension setup in this trim uses Bilstein shocks and revised springs. Sadly, Toyota has no plans of introducing this monster SUV to the Indian market.
