German automotive manufacturer Volkswagen has announced the annual sales report of its EVs across the global market throughout 2021. The company delivered more than 3,69,000 EVs in 2021 and continues to push forth the idea of e-mobility. The sales report also depicts a 73% increase in growth for its global EV base when compared to 2020. These statistics include close to 1,06,000 PHEVs (33%) and 2,63,000 pure EVs across its global customer base.
Doubling the deliveries of EVs
Following its ACCELERATE strategy and model portfolio expansion, Volkswagen doubled its sales of BEVs and PHEVs by 7.5% in 2021. With a major focus on the European market, Volkswagen sold 19.3% of BEVs and PHEVs amongst all its vehicles. The automaker also recorded a significant increase in deliveries of EVs in markets like the United States, China, and Germany. Volkswagen states that one in four of its vehicles sold in its home market is a plug-in vehicle.
The manufacturer also managed to sell 77,100 BEVs across China in 2021, which showcases the growth of 437%. Despite the global shortage of semiconductor chips, Volkswagen has become one of the top 5 EV providers in China. In the United States, Volkswagen sold 17,000 BEVs, which is twenty times more than what it sold in 2020. Thanks to this, Volkswagen successfully claimed 4th place among other BEV manufacturers in the United States, with major plans for 2022.
