Volkswagen is planning to launch the mid-size Taigun SUV soon in the Indian market. The brand in the recent past confirmed that the Volkswagen Taigun will be arriving on 31st March 2021 followed by the market launch and deliveries later this year. While the mid-size SUV segment is a highly competitive market the brand reveals that the Taigun will not undercut the competition and instead Volkswagon plans to position the Taigun with a premium price tag.
Premium Mid-Size SUV
Volkswagen is well-known for its premium products such as the Polo and Vento which position themselves in the premium’s hatchback and sedan and though Volkswagen does target volumes in sales as well as market share the brand wants the Taigun to be “true to VW DNA”, meaning there will be no compromise on quality, safety as well as driving dynamics. Naturally, the prices will be higher if the car is built around the no-compromise attitude and the company is willing to price it higher than the competition.
Estimated Price
Volkswagen is likely to price the Taigun in the INR 10 lakh to INR 18 lakh price bracket while its competition the Hyundai Creta is close to the price range starting at INR 9.99 lakh ex-showroom and going up to INR 17.54 lakh ex-showroom. The Kia Seltos starts even lower at INR 9.87 lakh ex-showroom while the Renault Duster comes with a price tag starting INR 9.57 lakh ex-showroom and the Nissan Kicks starts at INR 9.50 lakh ex-showroom.
Platform & Powertrain
The Volkswagen Taigun is based on the MQB-A0-IN platform which is the heavily localised version of the MQB platform that also underpins the Skoda Kushaq. The Taigun is likely to use the same 1.0-litre turbo-petrol engine that produces 115 PS of power and 175 Nm of torque of power and another 1.5-litre turbo-petrol motor that produces 150 PS of power and 250 Nm of torque.
