650cc Royal Enfield Sherpa, what is it?

Written by Kanad Kalasur

Royal Enfield has been on a development spree. Apart from launching new bikes, the Indian bike maker has its hands full in new development models as well. The new 650cc platform will be spawning a few other motorbikes as well. Now, it has been reported that the 650cc Scrambler will be called as the Sherpa.

More details about the 650cc Royal Enfield Sherpa

Looks like the scrambler based off the 650cc platform is undergoing road trials. This means that the bike has reached an advanced stage in its development cycle. Safe to say we can expect this bike to be in stores quite soon.

Royal Enfield has also modified its rear subframe. This has ensured that the bike gets a typical scrambler look. The bike comes with a single-seat design and it has a ribbed seat cover.

Talking about the design, the bike will come with a circular headlamp at the front and a short windscreen. It will also get a flat seat and a teardrop shaped fuel tank. The bike could also get an upward sloped exhaust.

The Sherpa will be sharing its platform with the Interceptor 650. However, there will be some changes to make it work with a Scrambler bike. The Sherpa will get upside-down front forks and dual shock absorbers at the back. It rides on wire-spoke rims and sports dual purpose tyres.

Engine of the 650cc Royal Enfield Sherpa

The Sherpa will come with the same 649cc parallel twin engine that is currently doing duty on the Continental GT 650 and Interceptor 650. Currently the engine puts out 47 BHP and 52 Nm of torque. We don’t yet know if the same spec will be offered on the Sherpa. Gearbox duties are handled by a 6-speed gearbox which comes with slipper clutch.
