5th generation Honda City details revealed, launch in July 2020 (Photo Gallery)

Honda has revealed details of its all-new 5th Generation Honda City before its launch slated in July 2020. The much-awaited new Honda City features a new exterior design as well as refreshed interiors and the sedan car also boast to be the longest and widest in its segment. The Honda City has been one of the most popular sedan cars in the country since its 1st generation that was launched in the late 90s. 

The newly designed platform also benefits from Ultra High Tensile steel with Super High Formability 980 MPa grade steel used first time in India. The new steel claims to improve rigidity while reducing weight. The new platform also comes with an improved suspension set-up that reduces friction, improved Front torsional rigidity and improved Quietness & NVH levels by using new technology such as Spray Foam Sound Insulator in Body, Variable Thickness Insulator increased up to 3.5 times for Engine Undercover, and Full Double Sealing structure for Door. The new Honda City measures 4549 mm in length, 1748 mm in width, 1489 mm in height and a 2600 mm of wheelbase. 

On the exterior, the new Honda City draws its design inspiration from the Japanese Katana, a curved sword used by the ancient samurai, featuring a sharp front end with 9 LED Array Inline Shell, integrated LED daytime running lights, L-shaped LED turn indicators, a sharp shoulder line that bridges the headlamps to the Z Shaped 3D wrap-around LED tail lamp with LED side marker lamps, 16-inch diamond-cut dual-tone alloy wheel design with Shark Gray paint. 

On the interior, the new Honda City features a stitched soft pad and wood garnish fascia, leather steering wheel, leather gear knob, contemporary seat design with leather seat upholstery, 20.3-cm touchscreen infotainment system with next-generation Honda connect telematics and claims an industry first connected car with Alexa remote capabilities, Click-Feel AC dial with Red/ Blue Illumination, an analogue-digital instruments cluster with a 17.7-cm full-colour TFT multi-information display with trip meter, real-time fuel efficiency, digital speed and a G Meter, rear AC vents, rear sunshade, LED interior lamps, interior ambient lighting in the front footwell etc. 

The new-generation car is powered by the brand’s EARTH DREAMS TECHNOLOGY BS6 compliant engines in both petrol and diesel. The petrol variant is powered by a new BS6 1.5-litre i-VTEC DOHC engine with Variable Valve Timing Control that produces 121 Ps of power and 145 Nm of torque matched to a 6-speed manual transmission and a new 7 speed CVT (Continuously Variable Transmission) with with “full-open acceleration step up-shift control” and “brake operation step down-shift control” for reduced rubber-band effect. The new Honda City also comes with a new BS6 compliant 1.5-litre i-DTEC diesel engine that produces 100 Ps of power and 200 Nm of torque matched to a 6-speed manual transmission with improved quietness and conform to BS6 compliance by application of advanced exhaust gas after-treatment system with NSC (NOx Storage Catalyst) and DPF (Diesel Particulate Filter). The diesel engine features Honda’s original Silver Thin Coated DPF (STC-DPF). 

The new-generation Honda City also comes with a full 5-star ASEAN N-CAP safety rating, 6 airbags, Vehicle Stability Assist, with Agile Handling Assist, Hill Start Assist, Honda LaneWatch blind-spot Camera, Tire Pressure Monitoring System, Emergency Stop Signal and more.
